League Members, Community Leaders and Students Visit Jim Crow Reconstruction Exhibit

Recently, LWV Irving members Susan Motley, Debbie Fleck, and Bob Sheaks joined Delia Watley (Irving ISD’s Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program), Irving ISD educator Tammy Kyser, members of the Irving/Carrollton-Farmers Branch NAACP chapter, and others for the final week of the Jim Crow Reconstruction exhibit at the Holocaust Museum in Dallas on Dec. 30. The exhibit helped attendees remember that the fight for civil rights has been a long, multi-generational battle, and as earlier generations did, we must continue striving for better. One of the day’s highlights involved hearing from Ms. Ruth Ann Williams, who shared that she and other students were in D.C. in August 1963 and heard Dr. King’s “I Have a Dream” speech.  As we approach the day celebrating Dr. King's birth, let us remember Dr. King’s statement that “The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”
